Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Educators

Aiding in the growth and development as professionals and serving as a foundation for
the field, the ten competencies developed by the American College Personnel Association
(ACPA) and The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) are
essential for student affairs professionals.

These ten competencies are the core values and serve as the cornerstone in the work
of student affairs workers. Through these transferable skills and the knowledge expected,
student affairs professionals are prepared for careers not only within the field of higher
education, but also for careers outside of the field. The mastering of these competencies fosters career readiness in graduate students that promotes a natural and seamless transition from college to the workplace. Click here for my professional competency paper.
